Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown 2008

I apologize for the extreme tardiness of this post.  It is relatively without excuse.  - your editor - Carl

The Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown.

Revolution finals, photo by Reuben Brown

This year wrapped up the last ULHS hosted in it’s original town.  Six years of history, from a small event among friends to one of the highest profile no-holds-barred lindy hop events in the world, ULHS will be moving from its home of Minnesota to Louisiana.

While this was only my third year attending ULHS, I think it is will be one of the better moves for the event.  The venue for the past two years, a ballroom more appropriate to a wedding reception, has drained some of the intimacy and atmosphere that I recognized the last year it was held in the Varsity theatre.  Hopefully New Orleans will revitalize the event as one of the best in the world.

Watch ILHC 2008 videos

Great news! Our friends LindyLibrary and Andrew Thigpen have uploaded some videos of ILHC this past weekend.

Check them out on the LindyLibrary youtube channel and Andrew Thigpen’s channel.

In case you’ve never been on LindyLibrary, go there now! They have an amazing collection of high quality (DivX) video that you can download from past events such as the Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown, Camp Jitterbug, the now defunct Rhythmic Arts Festival and most recently the Lone Star Championships.

LindyLibrary, run by Jonathan Jow from Austin, Texas, aims to be the best online Lindy Hop and Swing resource in the world and has two main goals:
1. We want to help people make their videos available to other people.
2. We want to enable new ways of managing, dispersing, and archiving dance information.

Note: We’d like to apologize for the confusion this past week on youtube. We uploaded some videos by mistake, and had to take them down. Hence, they now appear as private. However, we’re continuing to upload our own footage as we find time. It’s great to have different angles for all the performances at ILHC. Subscribe to the Lindybloggers youtube channel to get our latest videos.
