Song of the Week by lindy hopper Alice Mei

by Alain Wong

Straight from our hotel room at the Canadian Swing Championships, this week’s song was picked by one of my favorite social dancers, Alice Mei.

The song is Hallelujah Joe Ain’t Preachin’ No More by Harlem Hamfats. You can purchase it off Amazon.com. Merci Alice!

  1.  Freddie Says:

good song. Lots of great Hamfats recordings of non-standard tunes with a mix of swing and blues, such as…

Baby Don’t You Tear My Clothes, If You’re a Viper, Hoodooin’ Woman, Stomp it Out Gate, and many others.

also, i’m not sure, but based on this blog past, i think i might be putting too much effort into my songs of the week… :P

I love this song, too! Harlem Hamfats are a standard for me–especially love recordings like “Let’s Get Drunk and Truck”

“Hallelujah Joe” is one of those songs that gets stuck in my head as soon as I see the title :)
